After fifteen hours of traveling we finally arrived in Antibes, France! It is very cold here, especially at night, but we were told that this is the coldest it will ever be and it will only get warmer! We flew out of Newark, NJ at 7:00pm and arrived in Warsaw, Poland at 4:15am after a fifteen minute delay on the runway. We went through security and customs and then had a four and a half layover where we spent most of the time trying to catch up on sleep. To get to our plane out of Warsaw to Nice we had to walk outside in the snow and then take a ten minute bus ride around the airport to get to our plane. It was a very small plane and was only half full with about 25 people, five of which were crying babies which made it hard to sleep! We arrived in Nice and after getting our luggage we found our ride waiting for us. There were two other boys who were on our plane and were doing our same program, one of which flew from NJ with us. The four of us crammed into a small taxi with most of our luggage on the roof with a driver who spoke no english. He dropped us off on the side of the road with our laggage where our advisor was waiting for us along with a few other students from our program. The four of us had to wait about two hours in the dark and cold standing along side a busy road while our advisor took the other students to their aparments and then came back to take us. (Good thing we stole blankets from our first plane!) We arrived at our apartment and met our two roommates, Hilary who is from Pittsburg and Molly who is from Georgia. Our apartment is really nice, especially compared to the others! We have two bedrooms with balconies over looking the beach and the town, a kitchen, living room with another balcony, and a full and a half size bathroom! Too bad it didn't come with TP or internet! There is an internet cafe two blocks away where internet is free if you buy a drink. It is closing now so we will try to write again soon! We love and miss everyone very much! This is a huge adjustment! Talk to you soon, go Eagles!
** Sorry, we don't know how to add the pictures right but they are pictures we took on our here. The first pictures is from a beach near our apartment, the second is of Jen sleeping in the airport with our luggage, the third is a picture of Poland from the plane and the fourth is of us on the plane!
It's amazing to see your first glimpse of another country. It's so different and yet the same. Poland looks pretty plain like other countries that had formerly been communist like the former Eastern Germany where Jake was. Sleeping on the airport floor is what Jake did on the way to Belize. We had to get up at 0230 for our 0600 flight. Henner woke up at 0215 and heard the microwave and thought Mom must be up already. Then he heard the door to the stairs open and Jake fly up and dive into bed. Jake was in no mood to get up when I called him 30 minutes later! It must be nice to be by the sea. Water is very calming to me, even if it is a little creek.
